Sodium silicate
Chemical name : Sodium silicate; water glass
- Chemical formula : Na2O·nSiO2
Property :
Colorless, light yellow or greyish thick liquid. Basic in aqueous solution. React with acid (or CO2 in the air) to form silicic acid gel. Anhydrous sodium silicate is azure or olivine amorphous solid, without fixed melting point. Relative density increases when modulus lowers.
Use :
Adhesive in papaer, casting, welding, construction industry; auxiliary in manufacture of detergent and soap; water-proofing additive, drying enhancer for concrete; also basic material for manufacture of molecualr sieve, silica gel, white carbon, sodium metasilicate. Specification :
